MoVimento 5 Stelle -- analysis of a political 'phenomenon'

In many respects, the Five Star Movement (M5S) has emerged as one of the most interesting new political players in the February 2013 Italian general election -- catalysing a vast number of votes and, once in office, refusing to collaborate with any other established political party in the formation of a new government.
Being a fairly recent political formation, the rise and success of the M5S is extremely interesting for political and social scientists. The Italian journal Comunicazione Politica has dedicated its April issue to the M5S, where some of the foremost Italian political analysts offer an interpretation of the roots of the movement, the reasons at the basis of its success, its communication styles, and the key questions of leadership, structure and organisation.
